1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using Borg Backup Explorer (the "Application" or "App"), you agree to these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. License

Subject to these Terms, the Service Provider grants you a limited, non‑exclusive, non‑transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal, non‑commercial purposes.

3. Data Security & Caching

The App uses a server operated by the Service Provider to forward your Borg Backup repository requests. All connection information is routed through our servers using HTTPS. To make browsing and downloading fast, the server keeps a cache: an index of an archive (file names, sizes and modification times) and the first kilobytes of files whose previews you request. Both are encrypted with a key derived from your SSH key and repository password. That key is never stored, so the Service Provider cannot read the cached content. Caches are removed at the latest seven days after they were last used. Your SSH key and repository password are used for the duration of a single request and then discarded.

4. Disclaimer; Limitation of Liability

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. The Service Provider cannot be held liable for any problems or damages occurring through the use of the Application, particularly regarding unauthorized access to data.

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Borg Backup Explorer ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use the App. The App is designed with minimal data collection: there is no account, and what our server keeps is a cache it cannot read.

Information We Process

The Application does not collect personal information during download or installation. No registration is required. The App uses our server to forward your Borg Backup repository requests using HTTPS encryption. Connection information is routed through our servers to access your backup repositories, including archive names, details, and file contents as needed for backup operations. On your device, the App stores the repositories you enter - including the SSH key and repository password you gave it - files you download, and previews of files you looked at. Uninstalling the App removes all of it.

Data Storage & Retention

Our server caches an index of an archive - file names, sizes and modification times - and the beginnings of files whose previews you request, so that browsing and downloading do not have to read the whole archive again. Both are encrypted with a key derived from your SSH key and repository password, which we do not store, so we cannot read what is cached. A whole file is held only for as long as a download takes. Nothing is kept beyond seven days after last use. Server logs record repository and file paths for operational purposes; they never contain your SSH key or repository password.

Sharing

We do not sell or share personal data. The content that passes through our server, and what it caches, is not available to insoso GmbH or any third parties: it is encrypted with a key we do not hold.

Location Data

The Application does not collect precise location information from your mobile device.

Your Rights

You can stop all data processing by uninstalling the Application using standard device processes or through your mobile application marketplace.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data through HTTPS encryption and secure proxy architecture. However, users should be aware of inherent risks when accessing sensitive information remotely.

Children's Privacy

The Application is not intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be highlighted in the App or on our website where appropriate.
